Foundations Of Cognitive Science

Classical Music and the Classical Mind

This week we will explore an analogy that I have been interested in for a while, one that links classical cognitive science to traditional classical music. Then we will push this analogy further, by examining modern music's reaction to classical structures, and the analogy between modern music and embodied cognitive science. Finally, we raise this question: if something as complex as music composition can be described in an embodied way, then is it not plausible that more mundane cognition can be as well?

As always, the weeks slides are available on the web with a button press on the right. The slide handout is also available from the PDF logo on the right.
